The Department for Education (DfE) is supporting catch-up programmes and fun activities for all children and young people in England.

Maths and English

Specialist training and materials will be provided to support focused sessions to boost numeracy and literacy skills and help pupils catch-up in English and maths.

Schools with high proportions of children from disadvantaged backgrounds will be prioritised for the scheme in order to support those most impacted by the disruption to education.

Activities and support include extra funding for core subjects, summer activities, online resources and more.

SEND

Post-16 SEND

SEND students and 19-24 year-olds with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) might be eligible for one-to-one and small group tuition through the 16 to 19 tuition fund. Contact your child’s college, school or learning provider to find out more.

Tutoring for 5-16 year-olds

The National Tutoring Programme provides one-to-one or small group teaching with specialist tutors to help children catch up on missed time in school. Contact your child’s school for more information and to find out if your child is eligible.

Summer schools

Your child’s secondary school will let you know if they’re running a one- or two-week summer school where your child can enjoy a mix of fun activities and catch-up lessons. To help with extra costs, summer school places in special schools and special units are funded at a higher rate.

Tutoring for 5-16 year-olds

The National Tutoring Programme includes specialist provision for supporting students with SEND. From September, special and alternative provision schools will receive additional funding to ensure they can provide one-to-one tutoring for their pupils.
