SEND Awards Postponed
UPDATE: See the official press release including the quote from Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children and education at North East Lincolnshire Council.
The North East Lincolnshire SEND Awards Ceremony has been postponed due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic.
The awards were created to celebrate the achievements of local children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The ceremony, planned to take place later this month, was to be held at Grimsby Town Hall.
After taking advice from the North East Lincolnshire’s Public Health team, the organisers behind the awards have had to take the difficult decision to postpone the ceremony due to risks around COVID spreading in large gatherings.
The team have expressed their disappointment that this is the case, but have emphasised that the decision has been made with the safety of the attendees in mind, and have committed to rescheduling the ceremony for the earliest opportunity.
Following the decision, Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children and education at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “It’s very unfortunate that the SEND Awards need to be postponed due to Covid.
“This was a very difficult decision to make but we need to think about the safety of those attending, and we hope that in the very near future we will be able to reschedule, and that everyone will be able to join us then to celebrate the achievements of our wonderful young people.”
The event is set to be an exciting affair, with the additional time being used by the organisers to build on the theme that was chosen by local children and young people: ‘a night at the movies’.
Tickets were reserved for winners, families, school, presenters and special guests. Once a new date has been set for the ceremony, those invited will be notified in advance.
