Teens in North East Lincolnshire invited to get their jab

16 and 17 year olds in North East Lincolnshire are now being offered the COVID vaccine following an announcement by the Government last week.

The move to get all 16 and 17 year olds vaccinated with their first jab before the return to school in September is hoped to reduce the risk of the virus spreading in education settings.

Youngsters are beginning to receive a letter from the NHS inviting them to book their first dose of the vaccine, but can access the jab sooner via the local drop-in clinics.

Drop-in clinics planned for later this week are open to 16 and 17 year olds as well as those adults who have not yet had their first or second dose.

Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children, education and skills at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:

“I’m really pleased that our 16 and 17 year olds can now go get their jabs and get some measure of protection. We know that to get the best protection from this awful disease you should have two doses, but this is a step in the right direction.

“I would urge all those aged 16 and over who have not yet been vaccinated to get booked in or visit one of our local drop-in clinics.

“Last term the virus spread quickly through our schools and saw hundreds of students missing out on their education. Nobody wants a repeat of that, so it’s in everyone’s best interests for our children to get protected.”
