Carers Allowance

Unfortunately, Carer’s Allowance counts as income if you’re getting Universal Credit — but it’s still a good idea to claim it.

Even though it will be deducted in full from your Universal Credit payment, claiming Carer’s Allowance can help protect your right to a State Pension.

This is because it entitles you to a class 1 national insurance contribution, which is paid automatically for you.

So even if you already receive the Carer Element of Universal Credit, make sure to claim Carer’s Allowance too!
