Learning Disability Week

This week is Learning Disability Week, 19-25 June 2023.

This year we want to show the world the incredible things that people with a learning disability achieve, smashing misconceptions about what people can do and shining a light on the stigma many still face every day.

Watch the Autism in School video’s

The Autism in Schools programme has been a great project developing knowledge, understanding, and experience in neurodiversity. Parents and carers worked together with professionals from local schools, and took part in events, forums, audits and training.

We heard from two SENCo’s from local educational settings about their experience of the Autism in Schools Project.

Primary School

Claire McHugh, SENCo at St Joseph’s Catholic Academy.

Secondary School

Kirsty Allard, SENCo at Ormiston Maritime Academy.

Those involved in the project will be having their final celebration event for the school year on Tuesday 4 June. Learn more about the project and it’s success at NELC SEND Local Offer | Autism in Schools (nelincs.gov.uk).
