SEND weekly parent/carer update

This is the SEND weekly parent/carer update for 5 to 11 July. This week:

Covid-19 in North East Lincolnshire

There has been a significant increase in confirmed cases of Covid-19 in North East Lincolnshire.

Please continue to follow the ‘hands, face, space’ precautions.

If you or someone you’ve been in close contact with tests positive for the virus you need to self-isolate for ten days.

When you are invited to, you should get both doses of the vaccine.

Visit a local drop-in clinics for the vaccine.

5 minutes to have your say!

What do you want from SENDIASS?

Help us make sure your SENDIASS service is relevant and suited to your needs.

It takes less then five minutes to complete the SENDIASS Survey.

The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information Advice and Support Service offers information, advice and support for parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This service is also offered directly to young people.

As the contract with Barnardo’s comes to an end, it is an opportunity to seek the views of parents and carers who have, or may access the service to share their thoughts, ideas, and views.

Everything you share makes a big impact. If more people take a few minutes right now to do this, we get a picture we have of what you want and need.

Local people like you

We have new video’s on NELC SEND Local Offer | Celebrating SEND- local stories (nelincs.gov.uk).

Join the other children and young people, parents and carers, and professionals who have sent in short clips about SEND.

Did you know?
Viewers remember 95% of a video’s message.
That compares to remembering only 10% of a message they read in text.

What do you like about SEND? Do you want to give a shout out to a family member, individual or service who has helped you? Do you feel you have a perspective others should see?

We already have several submissions and would love to add yours to the mix.

Send your short (or long) clip through WhatsApp to 07766487604.
You can also email it to lauren.thompson2@nelincs.gov.uk.

The videos will be uploaded to the Local Offer and promoted elsewhere like social media.

Parent Champion Group for deaf children and young people

The group is organised by Karen Jacklin and Debra Gregory Jones who are both Teachers of the Deaf.

The group will be held on Wednesday, 21 July from 1.30pm-2.30pm on Teams.

The group is for peer support, giving parents a voice about local services and there are potential social events too.

During the next meeting we will have a look at the Council Local Offer to see how it can be improved.
