National Supported Internships Day. We support young people’s aspirations for the future.

We’re celebrating National Supported Internships day today, Wednesday March 27 2024.

Our Local Authority works together with local educational settings and organisations to support student’s aspirations for the future through supported internships.

A supported internship allows young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who also have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) the chance to experience working with the support of a job coach.

Giving young people the opportunity to grow through a supported internship, gain new skills and grow in confidence and independence is so valuable to both them and the community.

We have interns in roles such as grounds maintenance and hospitality (Reflections Tea Room) at Grimsby Crematorium, we also have interns at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital and a new upcoming offer with Humberside police starting this September.

Today we will be sharing the stories of local supported interns and lots of social media about the opportunities available to young people with SEND.

If you want to know more about supported internships make contact with Annie who can tell you all about supported internships and everything else related to preparation for adulthood- annemarie.cook@nelincs.gov.uk.
