Engagement with parents at local Primary receives positive feedback

Members of North East Lincolnshire Council’s SEND Team attended the Littlecoates Primary Academy SEND drop-in event on Thursday 19 October.

Engagement between parents and professionals at the event received positive feedback.

Parents said that they found the information from professionals useful and appreciated the chance to share their experience and meet other parents and carers.

School can be a safe space for parents who may be more likely to take the first step to working with others in this space.

Parents spread the word about the event and since then other parents have enquired about further events for them to attend.

This kind of community in SEND is essential. It’s beneficial for both parents and professionals.

Professionals learn so much from parents about what is working well, and what could be improved.

Parents very often rely on the support of other parents who share similar experiences and enjoy sharing what they know with others who may be less familiar.

It is also a convenient way for parents to speak with many services, face to face, in one place.

The school has recently progressed it’s SEND offer after opening Launchpad, a specialist turnaround provision within their mainstream setting.

This September they welcomed 12 students with EHCP’s who are accessing more tailored support with the aim of them returning to mainstream education.

A parent with a child in Launchpad praised the provision, and spoke about the progress that their child had made, and how much they look forward to school each day.
