Budding young artists meet Mister Mayor

THREE budding young artists from around our area met the First Citizen of the Borough in a ceremony at Grimsby Town Hall to celebrate their competition win.

The youngsters won first, second and third place in a recent art competition held by North East Lincolnshire Council, and were presented with their prizes and certificates by the Worshipful The Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire Council, Councillor Steve Beasant.

Emilee, Joury, and Manha entered their work into the competition, which sought artwork along the theme of ‘life in our area’.

The winners received gift vouchers, a A3 print of their artwork, and a certificate along with a goodie bag.

Speaking shortly after the presentation in the Mayor’s Parlour at Grimsby Town Hall, The Mayor said:

“It gives me great pleasure to present these certificates.

“Children are our future, and it’s important that we nurture their talent. This is absolutely the best part of the job of being Mayor.

“Congratulations to all the winners and well done.”

Director of Children’s Services at North East Lincolnshire Council, Ann-Marie Matson, said:

“It’s so important that we include input from our children and young people when creating these documents and strategies.

“Every time we look at these documents, we’ll see those beautiful drawings and illustrations, and we know that children are at the centre of everything that we are doing.

“Well done to all winners and entrants – it’s clear we have lots of talented young people in our area.”

More than 100 entries were received from students across North East Lincolnshire, including from Cambridge Park Academy, Middlethorpe Primary Academy, Orchard Education, Scartho Junior Academy, William Barcroft Junior School.

Submissions were judged by the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Young Peoples Advisory Group.

The artwork will be used to illustrate Council strategies and other documentation.
