Activity and social group for young people at the TapHouse & Kitchen in Cleethorpes

The Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG) will be meeting once a month at the TapHouse & Kitchen in Cleethorpes.

The Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG) is a group for young people aged 12 – 16 with additional needs who would like to help shape the services for young people with SEND in our local area.

The first meeting will be online on Friday, 30 April, and Friday 14 May virtually via Teams. It will be at the TapHouse & Kitchen every month after that.

What is it?
A small social group of young people who meet once a month on a Friday from 11am to 12:30pm at The TapHouse & Kitchen Cleethorpes function room. There will be pizza, burgers, salad and soft drinks provided. You will do games and activities with other young people.

You can also give your views on topics like:

  • How can we make school life better for young people with SEND?
  • What different courses would you like to be available when you leave
  • school?
  • What activities would you like to have your local area?
  • What can we do to make it easier and safer for young people to travel about in North East Lincolnshire?

It’s a fun group. You don’t have to write anything or share your thoughts if you don’t want to. You can feel comfortable to join us and just enjoy yourself with the others. Don’t forget, your SENCo or Teaching Assistant will be there with you.
If you change your mind about being in the group then that’s fine. Just let your SENCo know.

Who will be there?
At the moment 12 young people from six different schools can join the group.
There will also be the SENCo or Teaching Assistant from each school.
Lauren Thompson, the Local Offer Engagement Coordinator and Communications Officer will be there along with the TapHouse & Kitchen staff.

Lauren Thompson, SEND Local Offer Engagement Coordinator and Communications Officer said: “It’s great to see all the great ideas young people in our area have and to hear about all the things they want and need.

“There’s a lot we can do with these ideas to help them come to life but we need to hear them all first.

You might not realise that your experiences at home, as a brother or sister, at school, with friends, out and about, or anywhere else is the vision we need! Shaping SEND locally is not about coming up with something completely new and revolutionary. Even the smallest things that come from your first-hand experience can have a huge impact on what we offer.”

What about Covid?
To be Covid safe the first meeting will be online on Friday, 30 April, and Friday 14 May virtually via Teams. It will be at the TapHouse & Kitchen every month after that.
We will be socially distanced and Covid safe with good hand washing and you can wear a mask if you want to. Everyone who goes will take a lateral flow test before.
